Patricia Trainum L.V.T.
Veterinary Technician
Most of our long time clients have come to know our technician, Patty Trainum very well. She has been with us since 1992 and is an extremely valued member of our team. Many of our animal lovers have asked us “What is an Animal Technician, how does Patty’s position differ from that of an assistant?” An Animal Technician receives a college degree in Veterinary Technology and must pass both state and national boards in order to receive certification. In order to stay certified, a technician must take six hours of continuing education yearly. Veterinarians rely very much on their technician to perform many specialized duties in the same way that a medical doctor depends on a R.N.
Patty graduated with a degree in Veterinary Technology in 1981 and received her certification that same year. She worked for the Norfolk SPCA for one year, then various other veterinary practices around the country while her husband was in the military. She began working here with Dr. Gearheat in 1992 and stayed on when Dr. Hastings bought the practice in 1994. We are all very fortunate to have such a dedicated and skilled person caring for your beloved family member.

Groomer
Our groomer is Kathy Gossett. Kathy has built an excellent reputation in this area grooming dogs and cats for 25 years. She is a native of the Tidewater area, growing up right here in Pembroke Shores. Kathy and her husband, Jack, had been our clients for five years before she started with us. Kathy has a Papillion, "Maia", and a cat, "Zedd." She also has a few fish. If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to meet her, you must come by to say Hi. Once you meet Kathy you will definitely agree with what a treasure we have found.

Jane Littlejohn
Veterinary Assistant
In October, 2000, we were very fortunate to have Jane Littlejohn join our team. Many of you and your pets have already met Jane since her job includes caring for our patients in all areas of the hospital including surgery and treatment as well as boarding.
Jane grew up on a dairy farm west of Kokomo, Indiana where she cared for many different types of animals. After graduating high school, she attended Purdue University and studied Animal Science. In 1984, she moved to this area with her husband, Jack, and worked at a veterinary hospital in Chesapeake for the next twelve years. Jane and her husband now live in Virginia Beach with their two children and their Boxer, Hershey, and their Pug, Otis. We could not be happier to have such a kind and gentle person providing such knowledgeable care for our patients, your beloved pets.

Holly Keith
Receptionist
Most of you already know our receptionist, Holly Keith. Holly has been with us for over eight years and has become an indispensable part of our team. She came to us with extensive background in customer service but no specific training in the veterinary field. However it did not take her long to gain the knowledge she needed to fit right in. Recently, she completed a course to become a Veterinary Technical Nutritional Counselor.
She is originally from Maine and has been in this area for the last 20 years. She is the mother of 3 grown children. At home Holly has a chocolate Labrador Retriever named “Hugs” and 2 senior cats named “Spice” and “Domino." We are very proud of all that she has accomplished. It is safe to say that we have all come to rely on her dedication and compassion in such a demanding position.
